Senior Thesis Story - The Never Ending Regrets

This story was originally posted on my Tumblr. Had to set it to private because of, reasons.

This, is a story of How I Die….

No, no. It’s actually one of the sad story of a senior student. How she became so careless about her university’s life. It all began when a young maiden called Nedayah decided to click a subject oh her academic report. The Senior Thesis. A six credit subject that leads most of seniors to success, or never ending failures. There are many tears and blood and sad and painful stories behind this. No matter what, when you decided to graduate university or college from this path, you have to go forward. You have got to decide what kind of problem you want to take for research, what kind of methods you want to use, and what are the reasons why you choose this problem.

So one day, Nedayah had an idea. That she will take a research about: the formulation of a local regulation about buildings. Her minds wandered for so long, thinking about what city she would choose. Long story short, she chose a big city to be the site of her research, Bekasi City. She went for guidance from a lecturer and the mentor said okay.

But, one day, Nedayah was lost. She was feeling safe and she felt that she can still manage to do her senior thesis next semester. So she let herself drown and dived in an adventure called “experiences”. She thought she should take a couple more experiences in soft skills before facing the real life, because she was still insecure about her personalities and lack of experiences, so she applied, got accepted, and finally worked for some events an event at Pramuka Island, New Year Festival at Museum Mandiri, and a leadership program where she met outsanding people. She longed for activities that kept her busy, considering she only had 4 subjects left in that semester. But at the end of the those events, time slapped her very, very hard. The Time told her that she still had responsibilities about her senior thesis and her parents reminded her to graduate this year, in 2014..

The monster called “Fear” arose. Nedayah was shivering, panicking, and she would literally scream if she was permitted. Weeks after February started, she gather her courages, and for the third time, met with her Senior Thesis Faculty Mentor. Mrs. SS. The lady did not bother about her sudden appearance after months, She still listened the lazyass and careless Nedayah, and while she handed the first chapter of her research design (and after getting rejected from the site because she did not bring the letter from her campus), the lady said “You shall not pass”.

Brokenhearted, she tried to find a way and new problem to be researched. Voila! The news of her hometown, a faraway city called Padang brought some hopes for her. The City faced a problem about Municipal Solid Waste Management. She found the light! She felt heavens help her. She felt the universe was cheering and singing to the inspiration. She felt she was in a glorious life. She investigated, she did internet research, and the next day she met Mrs. SS, the topic was approved.

Days after, Nedayah who was just got an interview from Total Summer School got a call from a number. Someone congratulated her for her acceptance as an intern in a NGO. WAIT A MINUTE! How could she got accepted?

Nedayah, a week before, got a phone interview from this NGO. She was confused, but the slow brain finally told her that she’s sent a CV to NGO after seeing a tweet from @KampusUpdate. She answered the questions by clearly stated that she was in senior year and doing a Senior Thesis, the last subject she had to beat in other to pass and graduate. She never thought about getting accepted the internship, she tought she would not get the chance and she could focus on her Senior Thesis.

But, the Hell was not happy seeing Nedayah was one step away from graduation. Hell slapped her even harder than the Time did by giving her a responsibilities as an intern. Nedayah was forbidden to be happy. She must be desperate. She must have a devastated and a hectic life. The Inferno made Nedayah realized that sending a CV for an internship in the middle of her fight and duel with Senior Thesis, WAS NOT A GREAT MOVE. But, Nedayah still saw it as a blessing from heaven. She was confident that she could manage to be an intern from Monday to Thursday, and a Senior Year Student at the rest of the week who tried to make friends with Senior Thesis.

But Oh Heavens, a man should not be over confidence. A man should think about her steps very carefully. It was the day when Ndayah handled her (second attempts) first chapter of her new topic in Senior Thesis. She got so much notes (much notes, such revision, wow) and the time tick-tocked her. A few weeks more and she will meet the Deadline. A line which judge Administration Students whether they shall pass, or shall not pass. What Nedayah has done to her life until now, she did not know what is in front of her.. The hell happily played and appeared as Nedayah called for help. The topic, was…..

The Same with Her Previous Senior of 2009.

Nedayah felt her life crumbling down. She cried. She burst into tears. She never knew that the tears would come again in a few days. She met her faculty mentor. At first she brought hopes of her sorrow. But the next day, the hopes turned to dust. The invisible dust of hopes get in her eyes, and the pain of regret force her eyes to cry. She held it in. She held it in, as the mentor broke every single possibilities Nedayah tried to offer to save her Senior Thesis’ life. The world of Nedayah was crumbling down. She cried again until her eyes bloated.

The lady said: “You are too late. Where were you after all this time? You should have done it months ago. You must read more. What is the exact problems? Why do you choose this topic? Why? No, you can’t. It’s difficult. It is too difficult”

As she walk, her brain flashed pictures of her father, her mother, who put a big hopes that her daughter, their child that they were proud of, disappointed. Inferno was laughing. The girl was crying. She saw her life in a black pitch. The trade she made earlier with the internship was a sacrifice with her Senior Thesis. She could not have the best of both world. She could not live both lives, as an intern, and as a senior student. She bade goodbye at her Senior Thesis. It was not saying good bye that made it hard, but the story of this good bye burdened Nedayah and she just felt like she was the waste. As the burdened become harder and bigger, Nedayah closed her eyes…

amazing weekend

I went to Kota Tua and Monas last Friday with my housemates. I actually doubted that I could go there considering that I still had remaining undone tasks that had to be done. but since I've had the busiest week ever in May (meetings, assignments..), I decided to leave it and grab the rarest chance ever, spending time with my housemates, since we have this unmatched schedule. so we went to Kota Tua and we took a lot (trust me, A LOT) of photos with Laura's camera ;) and when the twilight touched this part of Indonesia, we set our feet to trans jakarta shelter and headed to Monas. even when hadn't touch the front gate of Monas, we already took so many pictures! hahaha you can imagine when a bunch of girls holding a camera.. we just can't hold the passion of taking pictures.. lol when we finally went back to our house, I immediately took a bath, and reached my bed to sleep because I was extremely exhausted, but happy! :D the next day, on Saturday morning, my friend asked...

A Story of Unsuccessful Romance: Chapter 1

I Saw You Across The Classroom I would've never thought that the moment I saw him for the first time across our classroom was the moment that I would remember for the longest time. I was just a 14 year old kid who like pretty people with pretty eyes. Little did I know I would think over him over the years.. I got accepted to one of reputable public high school in my city, barely. My name was at the bottom of selection results, like, the last 5 people who got in to this school. Nevertheless, I was excited, of course. It was my dream to be a student here since it would help me path my way to go to reputable universities in the future. Back then, this school had two special programs, the acceleration program where you could study in high school for two years, and the international program - where you (were supposed to) learn all the subjects in English. I just finished my orientation and I was initially studying at grade X (ten) - 3. My mom, who was a high school teacher herself in a...

When I was about to leave Japan, my heart ached. I swore to myself that I would not look at any updates from Japan. The fact is, I still saw my friends' posts and updates about Japan. I said those things because I felt hurt. It was t...
